Senior 1st XV Match Report, Gloucester Old Boys, Trial.

Saturday 26th September 2008

Old Centralians 22 Gloucester Old Boys 10

Old Cents played their only trial match before their County cup match against a committed Gloucester Old Boys.

Old boys had 2/3 trial matches before this game and brought a squad of 18-20 players.

The pleasing aspect of this match from Old Cents point of view was that we had 30 players approx for the match and all played at least 20 minutes.

In the first session Old cents put out their strongest line up and quickly scored two tries through Rob Pinkney and Rob Tucker. One try was converted by Craig Anderson and in the first 20 min session Old Cents were the better side.

Over the next two 40 minute sessions Old Cents mixed and matched their players and during these sessions Old Boys came back into the match and had the edge over the home side.Old Boys scored two unconverted tries and going into the final 20 min session the score was 12-10 to Old Cents.

For the final session Old Cents played their strongest line up and scored two unconverted tries through Lewis May and Gary Preen to seal the win.Old Cents did not have everything their own way in the final session as Old Boys took the match to Old Cents and the home side were made to work hard for the win.

For Old Cents there a lot of positives from the match and with one or two more senior players to come into the equation it is looking good for a stronger second xv this coming season.
